Our Photographic Style
When People look at our work they usually comment on the dramatic and painterly quality in many of our images. In advertising, We use color to get the viewer to look at what we want, or just to get their attention.
That is, of course, not what wedding photography is about? Ever since our early years in photography We have been attracted to black and white images of people, because in the absense of color we are drawn to faces, which is usually the central focus of the image.
While black and white works well for some images, it does not always tell the complete story. Many couples put a lot of thought into the colors woven through their wedding, and they are an important reflection of them.
Over the years We have experimented with many artistic processes like hand coloring and infrared to try and capture the perfect balance and feel.
Hand coloring is an interesting process, but We also like infrared because it gives people a radiant quality, which is how people at weddings appear to us.
One style that has evolved is what We call near infrared compressed tone images.
We believe it strikes the balance of the black and white image that puts people first, but includes the accurate color in a much more subtle way than what the camera produces.
This gives the image a delicate hand-colored feel, where the colors are ever so softly blended over the edges and then combined with the near infrared image for a more radiant feel. We finish by printing the images on fine-art watercolor paper.
We think you can see why people really enjoy this look, but keep in mind that if you or your favorite aunt would prefer any images with traditional color or black and white, We can provide that as well.
